A Woman on the Street



I really enjoyed this clip because it's Jeannette Walls telling the story of Part One in person. Also, I found it very interesting to see her mother and hear what she had to say. But my absolute favorite part of it is seeing the pictures her mother painted. I think they're so pretty!

Background Information

 

To start with, The Glass Castle is a memoir written by Jeannette Walls. Walls grew up in a dysfunctional family with an alcoholic father. When she was older, she attended Barnard College and worked as a journalist for 20 years.

This book has been on the NY Times bestseller list for over three years and received awards such as a Christopher Award, A Books for a Better Life Award and Elle magazine's Book of the Year. On top of that it has been translated into 22 different languages and sold more than 2.5 million copies.

Walls has also written another book titled Half Broke Horses. She now lives in Virginia along with her husband, John Taylor, who is also a writer.
