Mary Charlene

"Mom never seemed upset about Mary Charlene's death. 'God knows what He's doing,' she said. 'He gave me some perfect children, but He also gave me one that wasn't so perfect, so He said, 'Oops, I better take this one back.''"   ~Rosemary Walls on her second daughter's death (quoted from the The Glass Castle)

In addition to saying this, Rosemary Walls, Jeannette Walls' mother, was also quoted saying that people worry too much for their kids and that it is good for kids to put up with pain (as in bruises and scrapes), instead of being fussed over. I don't know about you, but I don't feel this way about raising kids. Some people may worry too much and are a little too controlling of what their children do, but giving them no restrictions isn't always the best route. In this case, I think the Walls children turned out well, but that doesn't mean it will always work.
This quote struck me when I came across it because I couldn't imagine anyone feeling that way about their own children. Saying that God took Mary Charlene away because she wasn't perfect, feels harsh to me. Nobody is perfect, I think we all know that, but to say that she wasn't as good as the others, not good enough to deserve to live, it bothers me. I think everybody deserves the chance to live and Mary Charlene was given that. I also think that it was just her time to go and that God wanted her to come back home. God knows what He's doing when He creates us. He didn't make a mistake, some people are just taken from this sinful place earlier.
