Quixote vs. Cat

On one of their many night-time "skedaddles" (when they drop everything and leave town), Jeannette has the family cat, Quixote, on her lap in the car. The poor cat can't sit still and finally Jeannette's father pulls the car over and throws the cat out. Jeannette cries as they drive away.
This scene reminds me of one from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. Near the end of the movie, Holly Golightly is in a taxi with Paul Varjak. Her intentions are to get on a plane to Brazil and marry some wealthy man she met briefly at a party. Paul is trying to convince her not to go and in some moment of frustration she asks the driver to stop the car and she throws her cat (cleverly named "Cat") out into the rain.
In contrast to the Walls family, Miss Golightly and Mr. Varjak end up going back to find the cat, soaking wet, in an alley.
