This is a picture of Welch in the 50s. Jeanette lived here in her Dad's parent s house along with her family. Their house was very rundown, so much so that no one dared to go on the second floor because the floorboards were rotting through.
Jeannette's grandma is rather abusive and won't tolerate being called Grandma. Instead she goes by Erma. While living with Erma, Jeannette and her siblings see why their father would like to drink a lot and want to forget his childhood.
This story reveals a lot about who their father is and why he always avoids the subject of his childhood. It gives you an insight into his struggles and the past he has dealt with. It makes you feel sorry for him, though in other scenes he seems like an abusive drunkard. Through this, you can get a perspective on Rex Walls' hidden past.
